Debbie Smith
Debbie studied with Yona at the Guildhall from 1978 - 1981. She found this a very positive life changing experience.
She then gained a Norwegian Government Scholarship and studied in Oslo with Richard Kjelstrup the principal clarinet player in the Oslo Philharmonic. On return to England she played for a year in the National Centre for Orchestral Studies.
She then played freelance and taught the clarinet. Yona's teaching provided an excellent framework for this period. She used a lot of Yona's philosophy when teaching the clarinet.
1988 - 1989 she studied a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and went on to become a full time Junior School teacher for eight years.
Debbie then trained at St Thomas' hospital to work in the microbiology laboratory a job she has currently.
Student of Yona Ettlinger: 1978-1981
